How can i become a better football player mentally?

I love playing football. But, theres some players on my team that are crazy and enraged about the sport, i wanna be like that. They are so focused, so game ready (mentally). Also, If i do calf raises and there sore during practice from previous workouts, will it be hard to run?

Football is definitely a very mental game, but to get yourself worked up in a rage, that’s not focus. When I use to get ready for a game I would usually sit in the locker room listen to some hard rock.

As to you’re other question, not to sure. Would say yes, but it all depends on how much pain you’re body can take.

hey – i played for 15 seasons and coached for a few as well – and I LOVE to see a guy, looking to get that mental edge

as a coach i would LOVE to see that on my team

but heres the thing, you dont need to go crazy or engraged. All you need is to be psyched!! you love the game right? and you know your gonna get out there and kick some a$$ right!!?? well you gotta get worked up, listen to some music that gets u pumped up – and get out there and make a big play early.

i coached a lot of great guys and i used to tell them this – i dont care how big or bad you sound before the game, NOTHING gets you goin then play – u go out there early and do what u gotta do and u will be ready to rumble. Get your mind FOCUSED on the game. all your concerns.. personal issues and so on, leave them at home

when those pads slide on, its time for Football – and think of guys like Zach Thomas, Tedi Bruski and so on… u know why those guys are so fired up all the time? Becuase they know.. they know when the 1st whistle blows, they are going to fight for EVERY inch till that last whistle is blown

thats what YOU gotta do, get ready for 60 minutes of the GREATEST game ever, and you play every play and you gotta earn EVERY LAST inch.

also – it kills me inside to know i cant play no more, im too old, but you still get to play, and listen to me man, make the best of there, get out there, and rip some friggin heads off ppl, cuz u get to go and play

you love the game, no go earn some respect!!

anytime you are sore for a game thats not good. Workout a lot but keep it light the day before games. But thats another great thing to build that mental edge. You need confidence, are you the best player out there? if your not, then let me tell u something, i dont need to know you, when i say this – you can be the best.

think about it – are u slower then some ppl, can u afford to be stronger, then work on it – get faster, bigger, stronger, put your time into it – cuz believe me, you walk into those games knowing youre the best, and u will be FIRED up!! take at look at yourself, find where you need work, and get that work done.

one more thing, CONDITION CONDITION CONDITION – make sure ur ready to fight out ALL 4 quarters. u cant afford to get tired or banged up. Get ready to take hits, even more DELIVER HITS – and go to the last whistle, you cant do this without endurance, so condition yourself

when your running, and ur stomach is cramped so bad, your legs are killing you, u got a pounding headache, every muscle feels like its torn and its 4 mins left in the 4th quarter… well thats what seperates the good from the great

do you have what it takes to fight to the end? i think you do – ur on here asking about the mental edge.. football is 90% mental 10% physical

let me know how u do – i am a coach too so i can help you in ANY position

Its not so much as being a monster in the field or being really crazy… Just get your blood pumping… If the game is your passion then you wont have trouble doing so… focus… let your mind give in to the fact that there is a war out there and your gonna be in it… listen to some hardcore music or those with great bass sounds to get your heart pumping… feel excited like it was your first game…

as for your other question, work those calves for a few weeks or so and the pain will go away….
