How do I get started playing fantasy football? How do I pick a group to join?

I really like to watch NFL, and would like to play fantasy football, but don’t know how to start.

I’ve been in a league for 4 years. We use cbssportsline.com. You can find a bunch of friends and create your own league or go to the website and look into joining an existing one.

Well the easiest way is to go right through Yahoo. If you already have a Yahoo account then just go to the Yahoo homepage and find sports. Then click on fantasy sports and then fantasy football it will give you the choice to sign up and then it is pretty straight forward from there.

any on line service…cbssportsline.com or yahoo.com
has free leagues to join. all you need to do is sign up and they will place you in a league and then you can go from there, meet new people, learn how to play, etc. Also, both of those sites, have interesting material to read about how to play, players, etc. Good Luck.

Your best bet is to join a free Yahoo league. Just go to fantasysports.yahoo.com

You can be randomly placed into a league with 9 other owners. You can also choose if you want to be in a live draft where you choose who you want with each pick or an auto draft where you prerank all of the skill position players (QB, RB, WR, TE, K, Team Defense) and the computer picks the draft for everyone.

My recommendation is to join a free Yahoo league (no money invested so you can look at it as a learning experience for this year) with a live draft so you can get a feel for what players are taken when.

If you join a random league where you start 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 Def, 1 WR/RB, 6 bench, here is my recommendation for who you should take and when. (Some rounds may have more then 1 for potential)

    Rounds
    1. 1st RB
    2. 2nd RB, a top 3 WR, or Peyton Manning
    3. 2nd RB or 1st WR, whichever you didnt get in 2nd round
    4. 3rd RB or top 6 WR
    5. 2nd WR
    6. Top 6 QB or 3rd WR
    7. 3rd WR or QB
    8. Top 5 TE, or 4th RB
    9. 4th RB or TE
    10. 2nd QB (By now you should have 2 QB’s, 4 RB’s, 3 WR’s, 1 TE)
    11. Def
    12. 4th WR
    13. 5th WR
    14. K or depth at other positions

Now this isn’t written in stone, but there are a few things you should remember
    1. Do NOT take a QB in the 1st round in a 10 team league. There is so much depth at QB, you can get a Drew Bledsoe, Jake Delhomme, Jake Plummer, Drew Brees, Trent Green, and so on in the 6th round or later. Yes, Manning is tempting and if available in the 2nd round, I might take him, but I would much rather get 2 stud RB’s and Jake Delhomme in the 7th or 8th rounds.
    2. Don’t waste anything other then a late round pick on a kicker. Kickers and defenses fluctuate so much from year to year, you can basically throw a dart at a bunch of names and you will have a better chance then by analyzing them.
    3. You can never have enough depth at RB. Since RB’s are the most injury plagued and important to your team, you should have at least 5 RB’s in a league of the style listed earlier. If you get 1 of the top 3 RB’s (Tomlinson, Larry Johnson, Alexander), I would pick up their backups late in the draft.
    4. Have Fun!!!!! Since this sounds like your 1st time, just enjoy it. If you have any more questions concerning drafting, trades, free agents, etc, just contact me through Yahoo Answers.

Finally, I would recommend joining the league that the guy gave you info on. A 10 team league allows for good depth for all of the owners and as long as the scoring is realistic, it should be fair for all.
