How high does the football go above ground?

A football is kicked vertically upward from the ground and a student gazing out of the window sees it moving upward past her at velocity 5.30 . The window is a height 12.5 above the ground. You may ignore air resistance.Take the free fall acceleration to be = 9.80 .How much time does it take to go from the ground to its highest point?
Take the free fall acceleration to be = 9.80 .
One Response to “How high does the football go above ground?”
  1. Nicholas Baverstock Said:

    find intial velocity

    Vf^2 = 2ad + Vi^2

    Vf = final velocity
    a = acceleration
    d = displacement
    Vi = initial velocity

    (5.3)^2 = 2(-9.8)(12.5) + Vi^2
    Vi^2 = 273.09
    Vi =~ 16.53 m/s

    Vf = at + Vi

    when te ball reaches its highest point, its velocity is 0m/s
    0 = -9.8t + 16.53
    -16.53 = -9.8t
    t =~ 1.686s
